Playing hard

We’ve been playing pretty hard lately. Lots of time at the park, lots of slides and swings and lots of falls.

Okay, so since putting these pics into post, we’ve aquired a second set of skinned knees, a skinned chin and a skinned and bruised elbow. I’m thinking they might get a little clumsiness from their mother! But we are having a lot of fun!

Simple fun

We’ve been having lots of fun playing outside this week. And we’ve been doing it all without toys. Oh the money we spend on toys that never get played with and yet we can spend an hour digging a small hole in the dirt with a stick! We were at a softball game for daddy and the girls had a blast digging a hole in a pile of dirt for literally an hour. (They don’t own a single toy they would play with that long!) RJ got a sunburn at the game so we had to find something to do in the shade of the porch yesterday. They had so much fun playing in a bowl of water. Oh the simple joys of free stuff!

Have you missed us?

So we’ve been on a sort of hiatus you could say. I guess I’ve been a little too busy living life to stop and recount what’s going on. But recently I’ve realized that with my memory being not that great, if I don’t start recording some things, I’ll never remember they happened. So….what did you miss?

Well I personally have been spending a significantly larger portion of time in the kitchen. Hubby and girls thank me for this. I’ve got a new-found love for making things from scratch and have almost entirely eliminated boxes from the cabinets….almost. I love the way homemade food tastes and more importantly, love knowing exactly what’s going into my body. (Although the real butter is starting to show up on own butt-er.)

The girls are busy doing all-things toddler. They love playing together and follow eachothers’ lead on everything- good or bad. Maiya now speaks in full sentence dialect and likes to make sure “Ya Ya (Rylee)” is in included in everything…”And Ya-Ya too!” Rylee Jo now also has herself about 20-30 words and growing. Maiya loves Minnie Mouse, “going fast”, coloring, coloring, coloring, princesses….Rylee Jo looooooooves baby dolls, pushing baby dolls in strollers, sharing her binky with baby dolls, her binky (which we HAVE to get away from her soon) and most of all her mommy (I have a new love for being her favorite person and really do love our cuddles).

Maiya had a scary spell with pneumonia and spent 5 days in the hospital last month. Thankfully we are on the other end of that and no worse for the wear.

We love playing outside “with shoes and socks and Ya-Ya too”. We are starting to love all things princess. I really think this is more because of Daddy than anything as he sure treats his girls like princesses and calls them princesses.

Man….it’s just been so long that I can’t even really recall anymore specific facts. Thus the reason I need to be blogging more frequently so I can have something to look back at…sorry offspring, Mommy will try harder to document your growing up.

Anyway, here’s a couple recent pics to keep you going.

Ice Cream party

Daddy wanted to make ice cream cones the other night and have treats with the girls…..always a favorite at our house. Rylee Jo was all but throwing herself across the table to get bites. Maiya now handles a cone by herself pretty much down to the last drop…gets that from her mommy!

Happy New Year!

I had every intention of doing a little photo montage to wrap up the year and what not…but life tends to get in the way more often than not! So Happy New Year! At the moment I am thinking about how much I don’t get the Parent of the Year award…..Rylee Jo celebrated her 1st birthday about a month and a half ago. I in my careless, half-brained state of mind deleted any and all proof of her birthday party off of the camera the other day. I took probably 50 pictures that day and had every intention of doing something special with them but instead I deleted them as if the party never happened. Oh Rylee Jo…I’m sorry your mommy is so careless. So here is a little RJ montage from the past couple of weeks.

Homecoming

Today is the 2 year anniversary of the day we brought Maiya home from the hospital. At nearly 4 months old she weighed 6 1/2 pounds. We were so scared that first night we just held her and stared at her as she slept and watched her oxyen monitors constantly. By God’s grace we’ve come so far in the past 2 years!

We celebrated by going to Pizza Street for dinner and enjoying pizza and ice cream..yum! We just thank God every day for our little miracle!

Phones

My girls love cell phones! If one of them is in a bad mood, they can almost always be cheered up quickly by playing with a cell phone for a couple of minutes. Obviously we were having an evening where it was necessary for both of them to be manned with a phone. (Sorry grandma Terri…I think you got crank called several times!)

An update for Rylee Jo….She had her 1 year appointment last week. She seems to be slowing down on her weight gain, which is common at this age because she is moving all over the place. She is 19 lbs. 10 oz. and is 29 inches tall. After a week of walking she now walks more than she crawls and will just walk all over the house. She can stand up without holding on to anything and at times almost looks like she is running. She is in such a hurry to catch up with her sister!
